About me...

Welcome to fourth grade! My name is Laura Koch, and I teach 4th grade math. I graduated from Christian Brothers University with a bachelor's degree in human development and a masters in curriculum and instruction. I am a National Board Certified teacher, and have experience teaching all subjects, but math is my passion! I have been teaching at Richland for the past 24 years. In 2020, I was MSCS district Teacher of the Year, and I also received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. I devote a lot of time to my work and am always inspired by my students! I am always open to feedback from parents. I encourage you to comment on your child's work and progress not only to myself, but to your child as well. Open communication is very important to the ultimate success of the school year. I also want parents and students to know that I am human just like you! If I have made a mistake, (ex: grading work) please bring it to my attention. I am always happy to explain/help/answer questions. I want everyone to be successful!
A few nonessentials about myself:
-I grew up on the coast of Mississippi and loved being near the water.
Beach vacations are amazing, but I have a new found love of mountains!
-I have two beautiful children: My son, Graham, is 14, and my daughter, Alex, is 12.
-I LOVE to travel and learn about different cultures and traditions. I have spent time traveling through many countries and hope to continue to do so.
-I thoroughly enjoy cooking and testing out new recipes.
-I love to shop at Target and Amazon.
-I LOVE chocolate chip cookies....my weakness!
Mission For The Class
My mission for the class is to guide all students in becoming independent, organized, and motivated learners. I want students to be excited about coming to school and learning something new. Fourth grade is a challenging year. I want to instill in students the value of hard work and effort. I always stress the importance of being organized in class. Please help me by teaching organizational skills and time management at home. It will help your child keep up with the work load this year!
